The Lions Foundation of North Dakota was formed as a 501(C)(3) non-profit corporation which endeavors to accomplish on a state level what LCIF (Lions Clubs International Foundation) does on an international level. Eventually, all interest from the corpus of the Foundation will be contributed to worthy North Dakota Lion projects.
In addition to its financial role, the Foundation oversees the printing of the state Lions newspaper, the NORTH DAKOTA LION. Also, they sponsor Vision USA, White Cane Day, and have also contributed money to Ocular Research. When state fund-raisers were planned for the Tsunami disaster in December of 2004, and Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005, it was the Lions Foundation which functioned as a channel for the money to reach LCIF.
The Board of Directors of the Foundation is made up of three elected representatives from each of North Dakota’s districts. They serve three-year terms. Also, the current District Governors and Vice District Governors are members of the board.
As stated in the Articles of Incorporation, it is their continuing purpose to ‘create a state-wide organization through which the Lions of North Dakota can coordinate the charitable and educational programs of Lions Clubs International.” |
